Why I Chose to focus on 1:1 Coaching
Some thoughts on the coaching industry
| Is it Fall? It’s cooler, I accidentally got an iced PSL on September 1 (who am I?) and the NFL is back (my philosophy was you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Them here refers to my husband)… So, I am embarrassingly competitive re: fantasy and am trying to order my 1 year old a Bills onesie. Ok now let’s get into the newsletter. | |
When I first started my business in 2021, I discovered the world of Instagram-famous content creators, and the rich and fabulous lifestyle they claimed to live. I bought a few courses, joined in on a few massive communities.
To my chargin, everyone was teaching other people how to launch their own thing and the whole “coaching coaches to coach other coaches” model felt a bit like a MLM-like to me.
And it bothered me that the average completion rate for a self-paced course is 20-40% whereas paid, live, cohort based courses are closer to 70% (a reason I’ve typically facilitated the courses live.)
It doesn’t mean I think every single course creator or coach is a jerk or extractive. It just means I had to step back and evaluate what I wanted to create, how I wanted to create it and who I wanted to learn from.
My truth is: I think coaching is an extremely valuable tool AND mass produced programs do not feel congruent for me.
The biggest gift you can give yourself is to know yourself, to be at home with yourself, to let your whole damn self shine and to intentionally create the kind of life (personal and work) you really want.
Coaching is not therapy and it’s not strategy. I believe most powerful coaches are trained as coaches and either bring a trauma-informed therapy background, or if they’re business coaches (like me), they bring the experience of having worked in start-up environments, have brought products to market are incredibly talented at strategy/ connecting the dots.
They also have a deep commitment to doing the work themselves.
When I became pregnant with my daughter, I decided to really double down on mastery: mastering being a good coach/ strategist, working only with 1:1 clients and mostly putting everything else on the back burner. I am still mostly focused on my 1:1 clients because while not scalable, I truly think it’s the best agent of lasting change.
It helps me get closest to my value of working at the intersection of profits and purpose that I desire to see in the world. Whatever I launch next needs to fit in that model: actually valuable.
I’ve truly LOVE the humans I’ve got to work with this year. I’m also working on developing contract work as a partnerships manager (I’ll share more when I can!)
That’s why I’m opening two 1:1 client spots in November.
These aren’t cookie-cutter programs—: we’ll co-create the container based on what you need most right now. For some, that’s figuring out what you need to do to close out the year strong. And sometimes, it’s simply pausing to ask: “Now what?”
If you’re a heart-led entrepreneur who’s ready to step into your next chapter with clarity and intention, I’d love to explore what working together could look like.
